IAEBP - Membership Terms
Last updated: June 2026
1. Introduction
These Membership Terms govern your membership of the International Association of Evidence Based Psychotherapy (IAEBP). They should be read alongside our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Code of Practice and Ethics, which are available on our website at iaebp.com.
By completing a membership application and proceeding to payment, you agree to these Membership Terms.
2. Membership Year
Our membership year runs from 1st August to 31st July.
3. Auto-Renewal
The IAEBP operates an automatic renewal process. Once you have completed your application and chosen your membership level, this will remain in place until you cancel.
-
Your membership auto-renews annually. Your payment card will be charged automatically each year.
-
You will be notified at least 14 days before each renewal charge, giving you the option to cancel before the payment is taken.
4. Cooling-Off Period
If you are signing up online for the first time, you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase during which you may cancel for a full refund under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
5. Cancellation
You may cancel your membership at any time by giving one month's written notice.
-
Refunds will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for each full remaining month of the membership year.
-
On cancellation, your directory listing will be removed immediately.
To cancel, please contact us at info@iaebp.com.

7. Membership Declaration
By applying for membership, you undertake as follows:
(i) Never to offer to help another person through the use of Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy or Psychotherapy, whether on the payment of monies or otherwise, unless first having in force an insurance against Professional Malpractice negotiated with an Insurance House of standing and repute.
(ii) To discharge each client from treatment at the earliest possible opportunity consistent with their good care.
(iii) Never to use hypnotic or post-hypnotic suggestion in an attempt to alleviate pain in another, unless each such procedure has been approved by a qualified Medical Practitioner.
(iv) Never knowingly to use hypnotic or post-hypnotic suggestion in any form or manner so as to be likely to bring discredit upon the use of Hypnosis as an aid to Therapy.
(v) Never to be involved in any Stage Performance where Hypnosis is used to provide solely a form of public amusement.
(vi) To keep any interest in, or investigation of, the paranormal as totally separate from any work of Therapy using Hypnosis.
(vii) At all times when using Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy or Psychotherapy, to exercise a diligent duty of care towards others.
8. Membership Criteria Declaration
By applying for membership, you declare that you have:
-
Completed an appropriate qualification in your chosen field of psychotherapy.
-
Completed the required amount of CPD hours for your chosen level of membership.
-
An enhanced DBS check in place.
-
Appropriate insurance for the work you are carrying out.
You understand that whilst you are not required to list details at the point of application, you may at any time be audited by the IAEBP and requested to provide evidence of the above criteria. You will ensure you maintain an accurate record of your qualifications, CPD, DBS and insurance at all times.
9. Annual Compliance Declaration
As part of your ongoing membership, you are required to complete an Annual Compliance Declaration each year. This is separate from your auto-renewal payment.
-
60 days before your renewal date: you will receive an email with a link to complete your Annual Compliance Declaration.
-
If the declaration is not completed within 30 days, your directory listing will be hidden until it is submitted.
-
The declaration covers: CPD hours, professional indemnity insurance, DBS status, and agreement to the current IAEBP Code of Practice and Ethics.
Your directory listing requires both active payment and a completed annual declaration. Payment alone does not guarantee a directory listing.
10. Criminal Record Disclosure
As part of the membership application and renewal process, you are required to declare criminal convictions or cautions that are not protected or filtered under the relevant disclosure laws in your jurisdiction.
Depending on where you have lived or trained, different legal frameworks may apply (including, but not limited to, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 in the UK, Garda vetting legislation in Ireland, and equivalent rehabilitation or disclosure systems in other jurisdictions).
Where applicable, you are not required to disclose convictions that are legally considered "spent" or "filtered," except where the role or context is exempt from this protection under applicable law (for example, work involving children or vulnerable adults).
An enhanced criminal record check (or equivalent disclosure process in your jurisdiction) will be required as part of the membership process.
Disclosure of a conviction will not automatically prevent membership — each case will be considered on its individual merits.
11. Fitness to Practise
You are required to declare whether there is anything that may currently affect your fitness to practise safely and effectively. This information will be treated in strict confidence and disclosure will not automatically prevent membership.
12. Professional Complaints
You are required to declare whether there are any open or confirmed complaints against you through a professional body. Disclosure will not automatically prevent membership — each case will be considered on its individual merits.
13. Directory Listing
Full members receive a listing on the IAEBP therapist directory on the website.
-
Once you have completed your membership application, you will be given a link to your Directory Listing Editor.
-
You can update your listing details at any time by logging into your IAEBP member account at iaebp.com.
-
Your listing will include a web link from the IAEBP website to your own website. We encourage you to link back to iaebp.com from your own website.
-
Your website should comply with Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) guidelines to be eligible for a web link.
-
Your directory listing requires both active payment and a completed Annual Compliance Declaration (see Section 9).
-
On cancellation of your membership, your directory listing will be removed immediately.
14. Code of Practice and Ethics
All members agree to adhere to the IAEBP Code of Practice and Ethics, which is available on our website. Breach of the Code may result in action under the IAEBP Complaints Procedure, up to and including termination of membership.
