Seminar – Narcissism, Narcissists and NPD
20 February 2021 – on Zoom
Presenter:
Kieran Fitzpatrick
“In this online one day seminar, I will again be approaching this topic from a practical standpoint to maximise the usefulness to us as therapists. We will rarely meet Narcissists as clients, but will regularly meet victims of their behaviours/abuse. And, as always, a good understanding of the abuser will help us to help the abused.
There is a high chance that we have encountered them in our own lives or relationships also and so it is very useful information to us personally.
The textbook and academic definitions of Narcissism can be woefully inadequate in the real world. So I will be focussing on practical, real world identifiable behaviours and descriptions.
Identifying a Narcissist helps us understand their behaviour, helps clients contextualise their experiences and can give us the ability to predict their behaviour to help us to deal with them in the present or the future.”
There is more than one day’s worth of material here so some parts will be an overview but the plan is to cover these topics:
The difference between Narcissism and diagnosed Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).
The causes of Narcissism.
Narcissistic traits and thinking.
Correctly identifying a Narcissist (not misdiagnosing).
The Narcissistic Spectrum.
Types of Narcissists.
Observable, practical behaviours of Narcissists.
Terminology used in discussing Narcissism (and through it, a deeper understanding).
Relationships with Narcissists (Professional, Social, Family or Partner)
How to Manage relationships with them.
7 hours verifiable CPD
